Foundation of Government: Post-Project Reflection
During this project my group and I was asked to create a product that would help teach 8th graders from T. R Smedberg Middle School more in-depth information about the founding documents and philosophers. The question my group members and I had to make sure we were answering within our project was “What is the nature of man and how has it influenced our American government?” My group members and I were working for Mr. Robert McCoy, and the product we made for him was a book. Within the book we had three different chapters and within those chapters we had sections.
Within this project I read three different articles. They were called “Who Rules?” “Why Government” and “Anatomy of Constitution” they were all from the iCivics website. There were two papers that helped me create my final product which were the following; breaking down the Declaration of Independence and the graphic organizer of the philosophers. My group members and I also did more in-depth researched on our own. This all help my group members and I in order to complete this project by the way that we didn’t have to look up a whole lot more of information we just had to put the information together and form the information into sentences.
In this project I learn a couple of few things that I didn’t not know and I got a better understanding on things I already knew. I learned more information on the view of the nature of man that the philosophers had. I got a way better understanding on The Declaration of Independence since we had an activity where it was broken down into different section. Something new that I learned was that The Bill Of Rights is part of The Constitution. I also got a refresh memory of the different type of government there is. When I was doing my own research I learned a couple of few things about the philosophers that I didn’t know about.
One main thing I struggled during this project was when I was figuring on the order I want to put my information like. A skill improve on was using my time wisely during class and not talking to my peers, like getting off of topic. I also made sure that I asked questions I needed more clearing understanding. If I was confused on something I asked for help. One of the Learning Outcome I believe I grew the most was in Written Proficiency. I feel like I grow in this leading outcome because I made sure my grammar was correct more than usual. I tried to expand on how I put sentences together. Also I made sure not to have run on sentences. I feel like something I still need help on to improve is on Knowledge and Thinking. I believe I need more help on how to develop sound argument. Something I need more help on is creating new ideas by using appropriate source.
